Silent Majority No More

Medicine is a Common Entry Point for Socialism

Americans need to understand, we don't go to the polls one day and actively vote to change our country from one where we are free to one where we live as slaves. We would never do that.

Yet, in voluntarily giving government more and more control over our lives, we slowly creep toward that very thing. The extent to which we allow the government to provide our needs, is the extent to which we allow ourselves to be owned by it. The government will gladly accept all the power we will relinquish and will fund these services through ever higher taxes. There is no other way. Taxes are the government's only means of income and when we allow the government to be the only source for our needs we are then at its mercy. Instead of controlling our government, our government controls us. Government dependency and freedom are inversely related.

President Ronald Reagan understood well how those who seek socialism attempt to get a 'foot in the door' by first introducing socialistic programs, often in the form of universal government controlled health care.

While our capitalistic health care system has its issues, our options are not black and white. There is no need to go to extremes. We are foolish to concede control over our health and our very lives to our government without exploring other proposals for reducing health care costs and expanding access--options that wouldn't sacrifice health care quality or our freedom. Reforming health care will take cooperation, time and effort. With our very lives and freedom hanging in the balance, we should not allow ourselves to be rushed into what should be a last resort.

We must recognize the 'dire urgency' to make an immediate, unmeasured decision for what it is: a desperate, reckless grab for power... a giant step toward socialism.

President Reagan's advice is just as relevant today as it was then.
In part, he warned:

"One of the traditional methods of imposing statism or socialism on a people has been by way of medicine. It's very easy to disguise a medical program as a humanitarian project. . . . Now, the American people, if you put it to them about socialized medicine and gave them a chance to choose, would unhesitatingly vote against it." - Ronald Reagan
Pray, God, those we've entrusted to represent us are men and women of honor and virtue, that they would truly represent the will of the people and cherish freedom more than power.
